Frequently Asked Questions
How does airPHX work?
airPHX devices produce a full spectrum of oxidizing air (for more information click here) including free radicals and peroxides. These oxidizing molecules are found in the natural environment, but airPHX produces them in a unique mixture that is effective in killing bacteria and viruses and is regulated well below established limitations (see material safety data sheets below). The only oxidizing molecules that exit the unit are trace amounts of gas-phase hydrogen peroxide at levels well below the OSHA 8 hour exposure limit. Because it includes no chemicals or disinfectants, the airPHX process is organic under the USDA program as implemented by the State of Washington.
Has airPHX technology been tested?
Yes, airPHX has conducted testing within gyms, locker rooms, hospitals, and other medical offices to ensure that the oxidizing molecules produced is effective in eliminating harmful organisms on surfaces and in the air. Recent laboratory testing confirms almost complete elimination of Hospital Acquired Infection (HAI) pathogens on surfaces.
Does airPHX | HEALTH operate continuously?
Yes, airPHX units can run continuously, or on a timer during off-hours. airPHX devices are flexible in meeting customer demands and requirements for odor and infection control.
Is airPHX | HEALTH expensive to operate?
No, airPHX units are very energy efficient. Our technology runs with the same power requirements as a 60-W light bulb, and requires minimal maintenance.
Don't air filters eliminate germs?
Air filters such as HEPA filtration devices can catch harmful germ particles and remove them from the air, but they typically do not kill bacteria or viruses, stop them from reproducing, or eliminate them from surfaces.
Why not use UV?
Ultra-Violet lighting effectively kills germs with direct line of sight to its radiation. UV-C has limited effectiveness treating shadowed areas. airPHX treats the air in a room, so any exposed surface will be treated whether it has direct line of sight to the unit, or not.
UV-C light can also burn skin and retinas exposed to its radiation, so UV-C lights can only safely operate in rooms without people. airPHX does not pose these threats, and can run safely in occupied rooms.
Why not use Ozone?
Ozone has been shown to be corrosive to different types of equipment, and can cause irritation to skin and lungs at certain levels of exposure. airPHX strips ozone from the treated air exiting the unit using a patent-pending catalyst.
Why not use Photocatalytic Oxidation?
Photocatalytic oxidation removes germs from the air as they pass through the plasma core of a photocatalytic unit. airPHX does this and more, killing microbes that pass through its core AND continuing to kill germs in the air and on surfaces in a treatment space.
How are airPHX units installed?
In most applications, airPHX units are mounted on a wall close to the ceiling, or suspended from the ceiling. airPHX devices require no special wiring, and can be plugged into a grounded 120V outlet. Devices should be positioned to utilize airflow from the HVAC system to distribute oxidizing molecules throughout the treatment environment. It is recommended that a qualified electrician mounts, installs and activates the equipment. The airPHX service desk is available to answer questions and assist with installations.

How do I know airPHX | HEALTH is working?
Once installed, the technology will begin to eliminate bioburden and clean the environment as a whole. The first thing you will notice is the change in odor as the air becomes cleaner. Over time, you may note fewer sick days among employees as well.
